Amateur Radio VK2SD in Australia my first! RX here in Sussex UK
This is a frequency in the 20 metre amateur radio band where hams communicate via voice and on upper side band.
Tonight 26th August 2024 from 19:58 BST on 14200 KHz I heard my first Australian amateur station.
This was call sign VK2SD named Jay to various stations in the UK and Europe. Many other stations were calling in trying to catch Jay’s ear, this is known as a pile up.

Realistic PRO 2005 Tandy Scanner from 1989 does it work
Просмотров 3982 месяца назад
Realistic PRO-2005 Probably one of the best radio scanners ever made for its time! These were an expensive but great investment back in the day. I’ve just rediscovered mine after many years stored in the attic, maybe 20 years. The radio was purchased back in 1989. Let’s see if it works and look at any repair work that may be needed. #radioscanners #hamradio #Tandy #RealisticPRO2005

Mike, do the R4388/4389 coaches match the Duchess colour exactly? I think you have those in your rake behind the first two?
Hi, I think they are a little dark to be honest, have a look here ruclips.net/video/zxGb51YkpNA/видео.html
@@MikesMovies hmm, yes...any ideas on which are a spot on match?
OK, we've chatted over on Model Railways Unlimited now
He's in Newcastle NSW. Seems he is a Passport Bro as well! 1 of the towns in Victoria my dad grew up in had a Ham station as well, run by a bloke named 'Statics'!
Thanks for the info
@@MikesMovies Cheers Guv!
Thank you opening up the tank, I’ve not seen that yet. I’m shopping and educating myself.
Thanks, glad it was helpful
Mike do you remember swifts taxis in north street run by Jack & Jan Rothwell. I remember the arcades before the meridian centre was built and the shop on the end of market parade was the southdown bus office now a flower shop the old library in north street was a cinema as well before the Empire cinema. i used to love streets the ironmongers as well and dittman and malpas and even the small woolworths store opposite what is now new look.
I remember and lament all of it!
@@MikesMovies thats great that memories live on i was amazed to see how much new lane has changed with colt international being pulled down and buttericks and dunham bush, i remember the war memorial hospital and the car radio place by the havant bridge near where B&m is today and the St John Ambulance garage.there was also a small tobacconist shop opposite what is now poppins cafe and i remember the book shop and the fish shop in market parade. my first job was at the empire cinema and i still speak to Colin crosby the manager and another great havant guy Ralph cousins.
Really nice video Mike, great to see you and your old gang back together. 🙂
@@Shauniboy1984 thanks very much, yes a good catch up. I tried to make the video in the style of one of my MRU ones
I was hoping you'd celebrate by riding the rails. Good to see you getting out and about. You can't beat riding behind a real steamy, believe me.

@DennisLora2001 thanks very much indeed 👍
@@MikesMovies You're welcome
Thank you for making this video, what a great watch, packed with detail. It reminded me of a very happy day we spent on the Bluebell a couple of years ago. Loved the shrug of the shoulders as the sign went up on the Hall, along with the quality filming. I bet you glean a few sound clips from this one for future productions. Thank you Mike.
🎉😂 oh yes very helpful sounds, glad you enjoyed it 😊
Lovely video. The nice thing about the steam railways is that there is nearly always a surprise : in this case a Great Western Hall. It must have been wonderful to meet up with old friends. Nice music too.
@@rodericfindlay4147 thanks Roderic, it was indeed a great day 😊
Super day, lot's of action, didn't realise you'd retired though??
@@hotdogpilot6319 ah yes, health was bad and 2016 focused my mind
Super video Mike! - looked to be an enjoyable day. If only somebody made a model of the Diagram 52 ex.SECR 100-seater @8.00. Some of these (including no.971) ended up strengthening Pull-Push sets, whilst others saw use in the West of England 'W' sets......
🎉 many thanks 🎉 oh yes a model would be nice
Super video enjoyed watching. Looks like everyone had a great day. The coaches looked great. Thanks for showing. Regards Paul.

Hi there, I'm a complete newbie about radios, but I'm getting into it. I’ve seen an advertisement recently that caught my eye of a Realistic 400 pro-2005. I would like to buy it, but I kind of remember watching a video saying that most of the frequencies nowadays, especially police, fire fighters, etc., are digital. I'm not sure, but I think the 400 pro-2005 is not digital, right? So, it would be fair to say this model of scanner is not that worthy anymore, isn't it? Am I correct? What could I still do with this kind of model? Thanks in advance.
Hey there. Emergency services are no longer receivable you are correct (UK) however this scanner can still get Aircraft civil and military, shipping, PMR and a host of other services. I'd recommend you joining one of the Facebook scanner forums. This is an old but capable scanner, you might like to look at one of the new ones such as The Uniden UBC125XLT is a compact 500-channel handheld scanner, which covers 25-88MHz, 108-174 MHz, 225-512 MHz, and 806-960 MHz with 5/6.25/8.33/10/12.5kHz can be had at a low cost and have the added facility of close call whereby they can lock onto local signals. Good luck
@@MikesMovies Thank you, I really appreciate the input.

The Zurich building hasn't gone; it's been extended recently, taking up a small part of Victoria Park, and converted into yet more student digs.
really, i was sure it had gone
I got one of these last week for £15. It and had the BATT error flashing despite changing it. Found a solution was to bridge the pink wire from the front panel to earth and fixed it. I need to also fix the back light now but its a great scanner.
How you getting on with it?
@@MikesMovies Very well, I replaced the back light strip and cleaned up the board. Rapid scanner, great fun👍
@@shammon1 Oo interesting, what did you use and do to replace the backlight?
@@MikesMovies split the radio down and remove the front off it. Unscrew abd unsolder the back plate. Then unsolder the two backlight pins. It then slides out, I got a replacement screen from Elwirecraft for £8 in UK
@@shammon1 Excellent info thanks
Superb, Mike. Im in tears.
Aww, I know what you mean however, sad how its all gone and the days seemed far happier then
I've restored a realistic 2021 & 2022 Scanners to working order. Had to replace the EL-Tape for the LCD backlight. Funny that one of the first places to find replacements was from a business in the UK!
Excellent work, I still need to do the display but I've re capped it a bit too and it works well. EL-tape?
@@MikesMovies Electroluminescent Tape is what I call el-tape.
@@MikesMovies I've tried pasting the url to the place in the UK sells the backlight but it looks like it's getting filtered by RUclips.
Remember to L/OUT all the 000.0000 channels or you'll be scanning a lot of nothing :) And the electroluminecent panels can be bought for cheap on Amazon and be replaced. Maybe change color?.
ah yes I remember now, thanks. Got a link for amazon?

Judged by the comments, I seem to be one of the oldest here? I remember listening to european and global stations, SW-MW-LW, during day and night time, in the 60s - this was when the Beatles appeared. Agreed, it was a great time, something the present generations will find hard to appreciate...
Ah you were really in the golden age then
Installed a 120 foot wire antenna in the attic. Great reception yes, but strong stations like VOA and Radio Canada, overwhelmed whatever mb they were broadcasting on. And if i used poorly shielded guitar cords in would hear both stations thru a bass guitar amp.
LOL yeah I recall hearing stations at night coming in on cassette recorder amps
Brilliant
